Lots of good theory in there, but my point was not to suffer if the ideal height is uncomfortable. Like I said in the video, TV height rules vary depending on who you ask. Audio person? That would be your point of view, rightly so. Ask an interior designer, and the rules change. Another point though, speakers can do quite well off axis. Depends on the speaker of course, but I employ extreme toe in, and I'd have a hard time going back. Just tried it one day for giggles and I really liked it. Good points though, and I appreciate the feedback!

The stack is definitely for the shock factor. I'll only run matching subwoofers, so I didn't have the wall of bass going. That said, I'm loving having the PB-3000's back! Definitely worth matching dual subwoofers. What sub do you have now?

A pair of these will be game changing. Some people say that about things that are slightly better. I'm talking truly impressive, and sounding phenomenal with everything. @@Subwoofer101 I’ve got an 65” DX902 which is still brilliant but hankering after an OLED for movies. I do have an Epson TW9400 PJ too so guess the bigger TV can wait. The amp suits my needs but got upgrade fever lol

@matthewgould4464 That upgrade fever is a tough one, gets expensive fast. Would you be going up in size on the TV? Have you done the Spears and Munsel calibration? I have to ask, what is your subwoofer situation? Specifics like which model, how many, etc...

@@Subwoofer101 yes! Upgrade fever is a big issue! Not done calibration and wanted to go from 65” to something like 83” plus. I’m running KEF Q series 5.1.2 with a KEF Kube 10b

I should add seating distance is around 3.5m. My pj is onto a 110” tab tensioned screen so very lucky to have a choice atm. Wondering whether to sell PJ set up to fund a new bigger TV. Those Bravia 9’s look nice!

Funny, I shot a video on that. I still need to publish it, but I didn't like it at first, but because I always need to be reclined because of my Post Concussion Syndrome, it's actually worked out well for me. My neck isn't bent down like I'm looking at my feet anymore. I agree that it's not typical, and not ideal for most, but I'm happy I was "forced" to put it up that high. Never would have gone that high otherwise. Now, if I had a set up where I could put it lower, I would still mount it relatively high, but that's just because my neck is less strained. And thank you, I'm glad to be posting videos again!

I know I'd prefer ported, but I have a good way for you to figure out what you prefer. Set up your dual PB4K's as sealed, plug the ports, set the port configuration in the App as sealed, and disable all App PEQ's. Redo room correction, set up as you normally would. Live with it for at least a month, or less if you don't like it. If you love sealed, it's a good idea. If you prefer ported, PB-16 over SB-16.

Higher voltage allows for smaller diameter cables. The weight of the cable alone would be worth doubling the voltage, and if I were to do it again, I'd go 48 volt. As it is, I use 4/0 (0000 gauge) welding cable, which isn't cheap, and I could use more power if I used 2 runs of 4/0, or 350 MCM, expensive and heavy. Still, being able to comfortably run one AC and the home theater is pretty cool 😎. More solar panels and thicker cables, and I could run both AC units and the home theater. 2800-3200 watts, but when I do that the cable gets a little warm. At 2300 watts and under, cables don't get warm at all, so I keep that limit. Fun fact, the theater, even at full tilt, barely uses over 500 watts. Usually 260 to 350, and a third of that is the TV. Class D subwoofer amps are very efficient.

Everyone has their own taste. The challenge is getting a mixed use room to be usable and not look offensive. These are some of the larger subs, the PB-1000 Pro's are the smallest I can comfortably recommend, but deep, proper bass requires some real estate. All depends on what you value. The movie experience with these subs was outstanding, and they bring realism few people can imagine, and all while being comfortable to listen to all day. To me, it's worth the trade off. Others go with tiny speakers, but they get tiny sounding results. The Micro 3000 is crazy good for it's size, probably more up your alley. Some people have the luxury of being able to hide their big subs, but that just isn't in the cards for rooms like this. If you want to really see chaos, see my most recent video. Granted, it's for show, and not to be used in practice, but I could imagine you either laughing or being too shocked to laugh 😂

@@Subwoofer101 I get it. I understand large subs & full range speakers. I have been doing audio stuff for 30+ years. I used to have a pair of full range floor speakers with 15” subs. My car has a $15k system with a 12.5” JL Audio W7 powered by a JL 1000.1 mono amp (along with dual 300 watt amps for front/rear stage, diamond audio hex series mids & tweeters, 32band EQ with 5.1 decoding etc…).

Mains typically around 90 hertz, even for Towers, and 120-150 for Satellite, Elevation, and any speaker with a small bass driver. Always set to Small.

I installed it through the wall, but it is a "window unit". I made sure no vents were blocked, but I don't know if it affected the performance. I was definitely happy with it.

Who hurt you? 😅 Yes, I changed a cable and it fixed my particular problem. But I don't think that was the only information I provided... Some people might not believe a cable could fix it, or it might not be something they considered. Not everyone has all of the knowledge of audio and electronics. I choose to be approachable and welcoming to those who are new to the hobby. There is a toxic association with audiophiles and the audio hobby in general. I don't like it, but I love audio. I'm not the only one. Take care.

The general trajectory is that chronic Post Concussion Syndrome gets worse over time. I've definitely been through more tests and screenings over the last 2 decades, and I work with doctors who specifically treat chronic Post Concussion Syndrome. Most vital is a Neuro Optometrist who specializes in brain injury. Biggest difference so far. Definitely not giving up, and maybe it'll be resolved by something new or unexpected, but I'm also a realist. My hearing probably won't get worse in terms of sensitivity, but I don't imagine my hearing being less sensitive. It's definitely regularly misdiagnosed, and usually misunderstood.

Our expectations shape our reality and this is never truer than with concussion symptoms/PCS. Your hearing may have gotten more sensitive as a normal consequence of aging. I recently brought over some of my good speakers to show my parents a movie and they were crying "Turn it down it's too loud" before we even got going. Maybe 75db tops, I was sitting closer and still wanted to turn it up. They could not take the Focal Chora's for nothing! But they are used to regular tv volume, not sensible home theater volume. Again expectation is everything. You said you're not giving up so the first step is to believe you can get better. The second is to get a doctor that believes recovery is likely and doable. Biggest helps for me have been neck therapy, creatine 20g+daily (to boost brain atp) and yardwork (mild exercise, tracking objects in space, maintaining balance). @@Subwoofer101 - *Update* Alright more chats with SVS and they now suggest I go with the Nano's since I'd like to use my wall mounting brackets I'm currently using for the Prime Satellites. It sounds like the Nano will be available through SVS Canada in July

Yeah, they are a little deeper, they are bigger in every dimension. You'd either want to move the bracket so it's out of the way of the beam, or maybe lower the projector to get the Elevation out of the beam. If it's in the way now, might as well adjust it now, and maybe make a cardboard template with the dimensions on the website to see if you can get the Ultra to be out of the way as well. Not sure exactly what you're dealing with, but just my thoughts. If it's just one speaker, and you can use Ultras in the other 2, 4, or however many Prime Elevations you have, it would still be worth it. You'd only have 1 Prime Elevation, and they will still blend well.

Only 2 of the 4 heights are in the way (the front ones) if I move them left or right they would need to be against the side walls, moving the projector down might help but shooting it through a hole in a wall, so keeping it aligned to that may not solve the issue, and I need the height under the projector in the other room anyway. It's a basement with roughly 7 foot ceilings, maybe 7.5. It's pretty much the best I could do with the space. They are mounted right to the floor joists no dry wall, and I have sound panals mounted to the celing around and actually under them, so they are flush to the ceiling, which is kind of a neat look. I'll Probably stick with the Primes til I move some day and redo everything, but I will for sure swap my Cambridge t-500 towers and center for (I'm hoping) 3 evolution Pinnacles up front. Ideally I'd like to swap my 4 surrounds to the evolution bookshelves but I'd want to wall mount them, supposedly that's possible with a bracket they come with but I never got clarifcation on that from anyone.

@Antimonkat Acoustically transparent screen? Bring it forward, and have the Elevations behind the screen? You could also mount the Evolutions on their side, so they are towed in, and you can also add an angled backing to the mount, so they are still angled down. I've always meant to do this, but it would probably be a good solution for your situation. To sum up, a wedged piece of wood that angles the speaker down, and the speaker with the long side parallel to the ceiling. Obviously, bracing it would be critical, you wouldn't want it to come loose. Just an idea to consider.

​@@Subwoofer101 all interesting thoughts, thanks, you surely think outside the box like with that RV project. Good things to consider in any event, I wasn't originally going to upgrade the prime elevations, but seeing how much bigger and formidable they are, I probably will, but I think I want to bring the rest of the SVS evolution line in first, those speakers need upgrading before my ceilings do. It will be a good opportunity to reposition them anyway, they aren't quite where I want them related to seating, little too far in and forward I think, though some are saying they should be closer to the front stage anyway, behind the AT screen is a great idea, but then i'd want middles to bridge the gap. Live and learn right? The hobby is a journey. Of course before I do anything You'll want me to get another pb3000 to go duals! I'm commiting a cardinal sin right now by mixing and matching sub brands and types. :P

If your set-up made sense for that form factor, yes. If you wanted to wall mount your left and right, for example. Or if you wanted absolute continuity, having every speaker the same. Upgrading in stages, like wanting to have all Evolution series speakers, but you want to start with these as fronts and then move them into surround and height when you get a bookshelf or tower. Lots of options, but they work great in every position. Very versatile. But I imagine the Evolution Center would be better suited for center channel duty. Just depends on your use case.

@@Subwoofer101 I'm going to get the evolution center and use the ultra elevation for the rest of the 5.1.4 configuration in a 12x12 room, with the 2 sb-3000's calibrated with the speakers hopefully it sounds great. Thanks for the response 👍

They just kept sleeping. Only a few tracks bothered them. "Outskirts of Town" by Clapton bothered Angel the white Tibetan Mastiff, but I could play the craziest movie scenes without them even acknowledging it was going on. You can see Angel in the Facebook video when SVS came out to experience the RV project. She was an amazing girl.

Usually 90-120 hz depending on the speaker. Always set to Small, tower speakers 90 hz, satellite/elevations 120 hz. Still getting response to the speaker under the crossover point, but it's a hard cutoff for the subs, and I believe in feeding my subs as much as possible. 90 hertz is always a minimum for me, unless I'm trying to trim bass in a very specific way. Always set the crossover for the highest value, effectively disabling the crossover on the sub itself, aka high pass filter off.

Honestly, I would think your gain is too low. That said, it depends on where you want that increase. Music is pretty broad. I would also make sure your speakers are set to Small, and at least 90hz or higher crossover, even with towers. Assuming you are working with SVS subs, you can run a lot more gain than your typical subwoofer. My adjusting subs by ear is a good place to start. If none of that brings you what you're looking for, keep in mind that some music just doesn't have the kick it should. White Room by Cream is a good example. But if you want to play around with it, you can boost the 40-75 hz range by 2-4 dB, and a wide Q of .3 to 1.75 (the smaller the Q, the wider the effect on both sides of the selected frequency. Try various frequencies, and see if you can hone in on what you want. It will take some tinkering. Also, if you aren't running matching dual subwoofers, a lot of that pinpoint slap is lost to the standing wave effect. Kind of just throwing everything out there. Lolz. Let me know.

Nah, if you heard it side by side, you'd instantly know that no amount of positioning or placement is going to make an appreciable difference. My 70+ year old mother was shocked at the difference. @@Subwoofer101 yeah I already have 36 speakers in my house and eight subwoofers (in the whole house, not all being used ) I just didn’t know if you knew that they were designed to be left and right unlike almost any other speaker. I’ve had my pair for just under 30 years and haven’t even had them plugged in in about 15. I used to use them in my garage.

Trial and error, using Room Eq Wizard to see the measured results of the changes, and then letting my ears give final approval. If I just went with what I thought the graph should look like, I would've reached a different result. I did that at first, but I didn't like the overall effect. 29 hertz gave me the results I wanted. Great question for sure!

Certainly can't say JL is low quality, but I can't tolerate sealed subs, not SVS, nor any other brand. Post Concussion Syndrome is the likely culprit. From the graphs and feedback, I believe that sealed SVS subs sound deeper than JL, and you can see my video on "going deep vs sounding deep". Since SVS ported subwoofers tend to measurably sound deeper than SVS sealed subs, my assumption would be that ported SVS subwoofers will most likely have more relative deep bass in the audible spectrum. The bottom end is audibly bottomless and powerful at the lowest frequencies you can hear. Ported might be bigger and more expensive, but I strongly prefer them.

Thanks! Yeah it's pretty common for AVR room correction to do that. Even on towers rated for 40 hertz. I just see room correction as a starting point, and then put in the right values. Thanks for the feedback!
